Norton Commons Home Earns Cover Feature from Better Homes & Gardens Editors

Since Norton Commons was first conceived in 1997, there has been an intentional focus on thoughtful design. As part of the charette process, architects and planners gained inspiration from traditional architecture. Many of the classic styles of the 19th and 20th centuries are incorporated into the designs, because they work well, hold their value, and are classically beautiful. Over 20 years later, the community continues to win accolades for function and aesthetics like the 2019 Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) Charter Award, the preeminent prize for excellence in urban design that embodies and advances the principles of the Charter of the New Urbanism.

Homeowners, homebuilders, and designers further this tradition of excellence with their individual designs. The Jennings family’s tastemaking 2019 modern farmhouse-style home has graced the cover of Better Homes & Gardens’ June issue of Modern Farmhouse Style Magazine. The five bedroom four bath home is featured in an eight page spread. Tori, her husband, and teen daughter had built in Norton Commons once before in 2015, but moved away to take ownership of a home and acreage of great significance to her husband. However, the family missed the Norton Commons lifestyle. “Neighbors who are second to none, walkability to charming shops, amazing restaurants and services, a fantastic farmer’s market and countless beautiful green spaces.

There is no place we would rather call home,” said Tori. The family was intent on returning and enlisted architects/builders Joe Kroll & Dan Swigart to design a stunning modern farmhouse similar to those found on Long Island, where Tori originally hails.

Tori designed the custom interior and frequently shared the home and projects on her Instagram account (@thelinenrabbit), which eventually caught the eye of BHG editors.
