JEFFERSON COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL AND YMCA
Jefferson County Public School system has an option agreement with Norton Commons for an elementary school site on land to be donated by Norton Commons. JCPS Board of Education will need to take action to fund the school in order for it to be built. The proposed school has been included in the Board of Education’s facilities plan that is required by the state of Kentucky. It is anticipated that no new schools will be approved by the Board of Education until the new student assignment plan is approved.
JCPS and the YMCA have been considering a joint use of the site that could be advantageous to both organizations. The joint use would offer unique opportunities for health, education and exercise for both organizations.
The YMCA needs the approval of the Board of Education in order to build on the JCPS site. The YMCA hopes to put a proposal for this facility before the Board of Education in early 2008. If approved, the YMCA plans to begin construction this year. The YMCA will be a state-of-the-art facility with full workout facilities, pools and a walking track.
The JCPS site is near the center of Norton Commons and adjacent to the parks. This location will allow children the option to walk to school from the neighborhoods within Norton Commons and its adjacent neighborhoods.

THE VANGUARD ACADEMY
